April 22, 2016 — RadSite™, a leading accreditation organization promoting quality-based imaging practices, continues to build momentum as more payers recognize its Advanced Diagnostic Imaging (ADI) accreditation program. In addition to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), an expanding number of health plans, insurers and radiology benefit management (RBM) organizations are recognizing RadSite’s MIPPA Accreditation Program (MAP).
Through MAP, RadSite offers a comprehensive, affordable, quality-based accreditation program that evaluates providers on the basis of established industry standards and best-practices.
Following recognition last year by key private payers Aetna and Humana, a number of new health plans have added RadSite to their list of “deemed” accreditation organizations for participating imaging providers offering CT, MRI and PET and SPECT scans. More recent recognitions include CIGNA, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield of NY, Spreemo, OneCall, and United Health Care Group (UHC). In terms of RBMs, AIM Specialty Health joined Health Help in recognizing RadSite’s MAP standards as well.
Some payers choose to no longer reimburse claims from non-accredited ADI providers or remove them from their network. The difference in claims activity between the accredited provider community and the non-accredited providers shows that the high quality providers bill less for diagnostic imaging.
“RadSite’s innovative and high-touch accreditation process is catching the attention of both public and private sector leaders as a way to create smart imaging networks,” says Garry Carneal, JD, MA, chairperson, RadSite board of directors. “The RadSite leadership team has put together an effective set of quality imaging standards to promote better clinical and financial outcomes for patients, providers and payers.”
RadSite recognition of a facility demonstrates to both patients, payers, regulators and others that a provider is a clear leader in imaging quality and patient safety. RadSite works with health plans and their participating providers through MAP to help raise imaging standards with a meaningful accreditation process and standards, education, reasonable pricing and a quality seal.
