Annapolis, Maryland / October 28, 2026 – Garry Carneal, JD, MA, and Thomas Wilson, PhD, DrPH, were recently honored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® for leadership in establishing technical standards for artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Dr. Wilson, co-founder and Chief Epidemiologist of Trajectory Health AI, was awarded the CTA Technology Leadership Award. Carneal, President and CEO of RadSite and co-founder of Trajectory Health AI, received the CTA Technology Achievement Award.

Presented annually through the CTA Technology & Standards Awards Program, the peer-nominated awards recognize industry pioneers who drive consensus and excellence across complex technology sectors. Carneal and Dr. Wilson were recognized for their work guiding CTA’s R13 WG1 Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Working Group, where Carneal serves as chair and Dr. Wilson serves as a primary technical contributor.

Under their leadership, the working group has spearheaded the development of critical benchmarks to verify, validate, and govern health AI applications, including:

  • ANSI/CTA-2135: Performance Verification and Validation for Predictive Health AI Solutions (published September 2025)
  • CTA-2136: Operations and Monitoring of Predictive Health AI Solutions (published September 2026)

The working group is also leading efforts to revise the ANSI/CTA-2090 standard, The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Trustworthiness.

“Developing clear, rigorous benchmarks is essential to ensuring that predictive AI technologies deliver effective, reliable, and clinically meaningful outcomes,” said Dr. Wilson. “Collaborating with such a forward-thinking group of industry peers through CTA to establish standards like CTA-2135 and CTA-2136 has been immensely rewarding. Independent verification and validation aren’t just technical hurdles—they are the cornerstones of establishing trust in healthcare AI.”

“It has been a privilege to chair CTA’s R13 WG1 Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Working Group and help develop standards that promote the accuracy, effectiveness, and reliability of emerging health AI solutions,” said Carneal. “CTA brings together an extraordinary community of cross-industry leaders committed to practical innovation, and its dedicated staff plays a vital role in turning complex technical consensus into actionable standards. As AI transforms healthcare delivery, this collaborative work is critical to establishing benchmarks that providers and patients can rely on.”
