Industry Thought Leaders to Provide Insights on Data Interoperability Requirements

New York / PRWeb / January 6, 2015 – Epstein Becker Green and EBG Advisors, as part of the Thought Leaders in Population Health Speaker Series, will host a complimentary webinar titled How Health Information Exchanges Are Supporting Population Health Management. This session will examine the ways in which Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) integrate data exchange models to promote population health management programs.

The webinar, scheduled for January 29, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. ET, will be led by:

  • Lee Barrett, Executive Director of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, a leading accreditation agency offering a range of quality-benchmarking standards to improve interoperability, data security and transactional health care quality,
  • Irene Koch, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Healthix, Inc., a regional health information organization (RHIO) located in New York City, and
  • Patricia Wagner, Member and Chief Privacy Officer of Epstein Becker Green, as moderator.

This session will examine HIEs’ support for population health management and coordinated care efforts for lessons learned, and utilize the panelists’ national perspectives to explore the range of additional potential. Panelists will discuss the development and transformation of HIEs both in the private and public sectors, and address different approaches taken by HIEs to integrate disparate IT systems. The webinar will also review current issues associated with sustainability, privacy and security and data integrity. In addition, the speakers will:

  • Highlight best practices and lessons learned from HIEs
  • Discuss different HIE data exchange models by examining the experience of a New York City area HIE
  • Showcase the importance of establishing consistent standards and quality benchmarks
  • Assess the future of HIE support for population health initiatives

The Speakers

Lee Barrett, Executive Director, Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission

Lee Barrett serves as the Executive Director of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, a federally recognized standards development organization designed to improve transactional quality, operational efficiency and data security in health care. Mr. Barrett has 25 years of experience in health care, including work with payers, providers and software companies, as well as 10 years of experience leading health care professional services, including Pricewaterhouse Coopers, SAIC, CSC and Virtusa.

Mr. Barrett speaks nationally on a variety of e-Health and e-Commerce and industry topics. He is involved in a number of industry coalitions promoting the use and implementation of both administrative and clinical transactions, including the development and proliferation of electronic health records (EHRs) and “Meaningful Use” such as the Healtheway, ACOs/Population Health and Health Information Exchanges (HIEs).

Irene Koch, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Healthix, Inc.

Irene Koch is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Healthix, Inc., a regional health information organization (RHIO) in New York City. In her position, Ms. Koch oversees legal affairs, including privacy and data governance matters, as well as operations and strategic initiatives supporting innovative, patient-centered models of care.

Prior to this role, Ms. Koch served as Executive Director of the Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) from 2007-2013, at which time BHIX merged with Healthix. She earned her J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. from Cornell University.

Patricia Wagner, Member, Epstein Becker Green

Session moderator Patricia Wagner has practiced with Epstein Becker Green for over 14 years, and serves as the firm’s Chief Privacy Officer. Ms. Wagner has experience representing a wide range of clients in all aspects of general and more highly nuanced privacy and security issues and concerns. She works with clients to develop practical strategies to help those clients meet state and federal privacy and security requirements.
