White Plains, NY, May 14, 2014—Alicare Medical Management (AMM) received two prestigious
Case in Point Platinum Awards during Dorland Health’s 5th Annual Care Coordination Summit on May 5, 2014, in Washington, DC. Case in Point Platinum Awards recognize professionals and organizations making significant headway to address the challenges affecting the U.S. health care system.
AMM won an award for its 24 Hour Nurse HelpLine program in which experienced registered nurses are available 24/7/365 to provide health information and education to patients and their families, directing patients to the appropriate level of care and reducing unnecessary health care costs. One of the important program innovations is its integration with AMM’s case management, utilization management and disease management programs. AMM’s Nurse HelpLine has been operational since 1995 and was one of the first in the country to receive URAC accreditation for its program.
In addition to recognition of its Nurse HelpLine program, AMM’s director of case management, Barbara Shaffer, RN, received the award for leadership in the individual professional category. AMM also received an honorable mention in the Pediatric Case Management category for its work with neurologically impaired children. In 2013, AMM was honored with the Case in Point Platinum Award for its Diabetic Management Program.
“We are proud to be among the ranks of the distinguished companies to win the Platinum Award,” says Claire Levitt, MS, AMM president. “This award represents the commitment and dedication of Alicare Medical Management to providing innovative programs that promote patient satisfaction and optimal medical outcomes.” In reference to Shaffer’s award in the individual leadership category, Levitt notes, “Barb has been an important part of our leadership team since she joined us in 2004. What makes her a champion is her ability to provide leadership, guidance and trust in a non-confrontational way to all those she interfaces with. She is a dedicated, hard-working individual full of compassion and understanding.”
Julie O’Brien, RN, BSN MS, AMM senior vice president and COO, says Shaffer’s many years of case management experience are evident in her work. “Her acquired knowledge base makes her an expert in the field,” O’Brien says. “Barb is a dedicated, hardworking, excellent nurse case manager, who has tremendous knowledge in navigating the health care system and collaborating in the best interest of her patients. She is extremely knowledgeable and is a positive influence in her team and in our company. Not only are we proud Barb is our director of case management, but so are her immediate co-workers and colleagues. They all truly enjoy working with her.”
“I am extremely honored to receive the Case in Point Platinum Award and want to congratulate the other nominees in this category,” Shaffer says. “Alicare Medical Management is such a dynamic and innovative organization, I am very lucky to have an absolutely amazing case management team to work with on a daily basis.”
